It was strange, because it was a small environment with only one DC. However, after a year, the customer decided to add a second DC. Until here, I followed a normal procedure: I installed the second server and promote it to DC. Everything was OK, without any error and from security reasons I just run\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=30005\" target=\"_blank\">Active Directory Replication Status Tool<\/a>. There were no errors, but in dcdiag I saw some strange errors like<strong> there is no SYSVOL share<\/strong>. When I opened Explorer and typed in the address \\\\localhost, I realized that all shares were really missing.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">What causes this situation? How to find the solution? After a couple of solutions I tried and after looking into Event viewer, I realized that I had a problem with DFS replication. In\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2958414\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft KB article<\/a>, I find how to test DFS replication for all DC\u2019s:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: courier new,courier; color: #ff0000;\">For \/f %i IN (&#8216;dsquery server -o rdn&#8217;) do @echo %i &amp;&amp; @wmic \/node:&#8221;%i&#8221; \/namespace:\\\\root\\microsoftdfs path dfsrreplicatedfolderinfo WHERE replicatedfoldername=&#8217;SYSVOL share&#8217; get replicationgroupname,replicatedfoldername,state<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">The returned state values has to be:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">0 = Uninitialized<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">1 = Initialized<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">2 = Initial Sync<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">3 = Auto Recovery<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">4 = Normal<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">5 = In Error<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">But my first DC returns a strange value: \u201c<strong>No Instance(s) Available<\/strong>.\u201d and the same value was reported locally form that DC. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/SysvolShare1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-501\" src=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/SysvolShare1-300x173.png\" alt=\"Output\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/SysvolShare1-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/SysvolShare1.png 678w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">At this point I realized that I have some problems on the old DC and I have to review the Event viewer of DFS Replication on that computer. It was not difficult to find the event 2212 (Dirty shutdown) and form here it was easy to solve the problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/SysvolShare2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-506\" src=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/SysvolShare2-300x216.png\" alt=\"Event 2212\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/SysvolShare2-300x216.png 300w, https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/SysvolShare2.png 642w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">You have just to reactivate the replication with the command (run from administrative shell):<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: courier new,courier; color: #ff0000;\">wmic \/namespace:\\\\root\\microsoftdfs path dfsrVolumeConfig where volumeGuid=&#8221;GUID-NUMBER&#8221; call ResumeReplication<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Where GUID-NUMBER is the GUID reported in Error (red boxed on picture 2).
