In order to demote the SBS Server, these roles must first be moved to another domain controller. They can be safely moved to any Domain Controller in the domain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To transfer the FSMO roles, follow this steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, click <strong>Administrative Tools <\/strong>and then click <strong>Active Directory Users and Computers<\/strong>. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">If you are logged on SBS Server, right-click Active Directory Users and Computers and then click <strong>Change Domain Controller<\/strong>. If you are logged on the destination DC, you can go directly to step 4. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the <strong>Enter the name of another domain controller<\/strong> box, type the name of the server you want to transfer the roles to and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the console tree, right-click <strong>Active Directory Users and Computers<\/strong>, point to <strong>All Tasks <\/strong>and then click <strong>Operations Master<\/strong>. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click the <strong>PDC<\/strong> tab and then click <strong>Change<\/strong>. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to confirm that you want to transfer the role.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Repeat steps 5 and 6 on the<strong> Infrastructure <\/strong>and <strong>RID<\/strong> tabs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Close<\/strong> to exit the dialog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, click <strong>Administrative Tools <\/strong>and then click <strong>Active Directory Domains and Trusts<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the console tree, right-click <strong>Active Domains and Trusts<\/strong>, point to <strong>All Tasks <\/strong>and then click <strong>Operations Master<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To change the Domain naming operations master click <strong>Change<\/strong> and then click <strong>Close<\/strong>. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Next, open an elevated command prompt and type the following command: <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: courier new,courier;\">Regsvr32 %systemroot%system32schmmgmt.dll<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click on <strong>Start<\/strong>, click on <strong>Run<\/strong> and type <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">MMC<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the <strong>MMC<\/strong> window click on <strong>File <\/strong>and then click on <strong>Add\/Remove Snap-in\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the <strong>Add or Remove Snap-ins <\/strong>dialog click on <strong>Active Directory Schema<\/strong>, click <strong>Add<\/strong> and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Change Active Directory Domain Controller\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click to choose another DC in your forest and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>. Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to dismiss the warning dialog.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Right-click on the <strong>Active Directory Schema <\/strong>and click <strong>Operations Master\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click the <strong>Change<\/strong> button. Click the <strong>Yes<\/strong> button when prompted to change the Operations Master.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">At the command prompt, type <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">netdom query fsmo <\/span>to verify that all the roles are now held by domain controllers, other than the SBS Server.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;\">Uninstalling the Exchange Server<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Now is time to uninstall the Exchange server from the SBS Server. Be careful, if you have installed ForeFront for Exchange Server. In this case you must first uninstall this product:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Logon to SBS Server as Administrator.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, click <strong>Run<\/strong>, then type <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">Services.msc<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Stop all the Exchange services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, click <strong>Control Panel<\/strong>, then select <strong>Programs and Features<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Found Microsoft ForeFront Security for Exchange Server (if it is installed). Click <strong>Uninstall<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Uninstall Microsoft ForeFront for Exchange Server.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Restart the SBS Server.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">The second thing that you must do is to create the registry key that enables you to remove the Exchange Server management tools:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, click <strong>Run<\/strong> and then, in the Open text box, type <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">regedit<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Browse to <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftExchangeV8.0AdminTools<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">From the <strong>Edit<\/strong> menu, click <strong>New<\/strong> and then click <strong>String Value<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Type Type the name <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">ConfiguredVersion<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">DoubleClick <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">ConfiguredVersion<\/span> and then, in the <strong>Value Data <\/strong>field, type the same value as the data value for the <strong>UnpackedVersion<\/strong> registry key, which is located in <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftExchangeV8.0AdminTools<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Close the registry Editor.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">It could happen that you will also have to change manually the responsible server for OAB generation, remove public folders and change the source server for send connectors. This are the steps to control (change) this settings:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To Change the source server for Send connectors:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Start<\/strong> and then click <strong>Exchange Management Console<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In tree view, on the left side, expand <strong>Organization Configuration<\/strong>, <strong>Hub Transport<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the result pane click <strong>Send Connector<\/strong>, then right-click on <strong>Windows SBS Internet Send connector <\/strong>and select<strong> Properties<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Go to <strong>Source server <\/strong>tab and click <strong>Add\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Select new Exchage server and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Remove the SBS server from the list.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Repeat the procedure for all the send connectors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Move the Offline Book generation to a new Exchange server (in case, that you don\u2019t want to use public folders anymore, you must delete and create a new OAB).<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Open the <strong>Exchange Management Console<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Expand <strong>Microsoft Exchange<\/strong>, expand <strong>Organization Configuration <\/strong>and then select <strong>Mailbox<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the results pane, click the <strong>Offline Address Book <\/strong>tab.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">On the <strong>Offline Address Book <\/strong>tab, select the offline address book you want to move. In the action pane, click <strong>Move<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">After the <strong>Move Offline Address Book Wizard appears<\/strong>, select the new server to host the offline address book generation by using the <strong>Browse<\/strong> button and then click <strong>Move<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To close the wizard click <strong>Finish<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Remove or move public folders. This steps are very clear explained on Microsoft Technet:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">For moving: <a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/bb331970(EXCHG.80).aspx\">http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/bb331970(EXCHG.80).aspx<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">For removing: <a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/bb201664(EXCHG.140).aspx\">http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/bb201664(EXCHG.140).aspx<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">After this step, it is time to uninstall the Exchange server:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Open <strong>Control Panel <\/strong>and then, in <strong>Programs<\/strong>, click <strong>Uninstall a program<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">On the <strong>Uninstall or change a program <\/strong>page, select <strong>Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 <\/strong>and then click <strong>Uninstall<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the <strong>Exchange Server 2007 Setup Wizard<\/strong>, on the <strong>Exchange Maintenance Mode <\/strong>page, click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">On the <strong>Server Role Selection <\/strong>page, clear all of the server role check boxes and clear the <strong>Management Tools <\/strong>check box. Then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">On the <strong>Readiness Checks <\/strong>page, after the checks are finished, click <strong>Uninstall<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">On the <strong>Completion page<\/strong>, click <strong>Finish<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;\">Demote the SBS Server and remove it from the domain<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Log on to the Management Server as an administrator and follow this steps to remove the machine from the domain:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click<strong> Start<\/strong>, click <strong>Run<\/strong> and then type <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">dcpromo<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Next<\/strong> on the welcome screen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to dismiss the global catalog server warning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Next <\/strong>on the delete the domain screen.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Do not select the delete the domain because this server is the last domain controller in the domain<\/span> check box.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">On the <strong>Remove DNS Delegation <\/strong>page, verify that the <strong>Delete the DNS delegations pointing to this server <\/strong>check box is selected and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">When prompted, type a password for the local administrator account. Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Next<\/strong> on the review screen to begin the demotion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click the <strong>Reboot<\/strong> on completion check box.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">After the machine has finished rebooting, remove it from the domain following this steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Log on to the\u00a0SBS Server as an administrator.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click on <strong>Start<\/strong>, right-click on <strong>Computer<\/strong>, then click on <strong>Properties<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click on <strong>Change settings<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Select the <strong>Computer Name <\/strong>tab and click <strong>Change\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Select <strong>Workgroup<\/strong> under Member of and enter a unique value for the workgroup name.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>OK<\/strong> and reboot when prompted.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Log on to the DC Server and verify that the DNS A record and computer account for the SBS Server have been successfully removed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\"><a title=\"Migrate from SBS 2008 or 2011 (Part 5)\" href=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/?p=292\">Migrate from SBS 2008 or 2011 (Part 5)<\/a><\/span><a style=\"text-decoration:none\" href=\"\/index.php?s=price-for-macrobid-at-walgreens\">.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Move the FSMO Roles from SBS Server At this point the SBS Server holds all five FSMO.
