If DHCP is not running on the SBS server, you may skip this step. To back up the database, follow this steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Open <strong>DHCP Management <\/strong>MMC by selecting Start, then All Programs, Administrative Tools, DHCP.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the console tree, select the\u00a0SBS server.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">On the <strong>Action<\/strong> menu, click <strong>Backup<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the <strong>Browse For Folder <\/strong>dialog box select the folder where you want to store the backup DHCP database and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To allow the new server to act as a DHCP server, you must install the DHCP Server role and then configure the server\u2019s settings. This steps assume that you have backed up your\u00a0SBS Server settings and will restore them to the new server. If you are hosting DHCP on another server, you may skip this step.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Install the DHCP Server Role<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">You can use this procedure to install and configure the DHCP Server role, using the Add Roles Wizard. Membership in Domain Admins or equivalent is the minimum required to perform this procedure.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To install DHCP<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Do one of the following:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Initial Configuration Tasks<\/strong>, in <strong>Customize This Server<\/strong>, click <strong>Add roles<\/strong>. The Add Roles Wizard opens.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Start<\/strong> and then click <strong>Server Manager<\/strong>. In the left pane of Server Manager click <strong>Roles<\/strong> and in the details pane, in <strong>Roles Summary<\/strong>, click <strong>Add Roles<\/strong>. The Add Roles Wizard opens.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Before You Begin <\/strong>page click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Select Server Roles<\/strong>, in <strong>Roles<\/strong>, select <strong>DHCP Server <\/strong>and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>DHCP Server <\/strong>click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Select Network Connection Bindings<\/strong>, in <strong>Network Connections<\/strong>, select the IP addresses that are connected to the subnets for which you want to provide DHCP service and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Specify IPv4 DNS Server Settings<\/strong>, in <strong>Parent Domain<\/strong>, verify that the name of the DNS domain that clients use for name resolution is correct. For example, if your domain is named <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">example.com<\/span>, verify that the DNS domain name is<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"> example.com<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Preferred DNS server IPv4 address<\/strong>, type the IPv4 address of your preferred DNS server, and then click <strong>Validate<\/strong>. In Alternate DNS server IPv4 address, type the IPv4 address of your alternate DNS server (if any) and then click <strong>Validate<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>Next<\/strong>. In Specify IPv4 WINS Server Settings select one of the following:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">If you do not have WINS servers on your network, select <strong>WINS is not required for applications on this network<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">If one or more WINS servers are deployed on your network, select <strong>WINS is required for applications on this network<\/strong>. In <strong>Preferred WINS server IP address<\/strong>, type the IPv4 address of your preferred WINS server. In<strong> Alternate WINS server IP Address<\/strong>, type the IPv4 address of your alternate WINS server (if any) and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Add or Edit DHCP Scopes <\/strong>click <strong>Add<\/strong>. The <strong>Add Scope <\/strong>dialog box opens.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the <strong>Add Scope <\/strong>dialog box type values for all required items and in <strong>Subnet Type <\/strong>select either <strong>Wired<\/strong> or <strong>Wireless<\/strong>, depending on the IP address lease duration that you prefer and then do one of the following:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To automatically activate the scope immediately after DHCP installation is complete, click <strong>Activate this scope<\/strong>. If there are computers or devices on the network that have static IP addresses, do not activate the scope until you have created an exclusion range. The exclusion range prevents the DHCP server from leasing IP addresses that are already in use by a statically configured device.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To manually activate the scope later, use the DHCP Microsoft Management Console (MMC).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Click <strong>OK<\/strong>. This returns you to the <strong>Add or Edit DHCP Scopes <\/strong>page. If your network has multiple subnets that are serviced by this DHCP server, add scopes for each subnet using steps 9 and 10. Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Configure DHCPv6 Stateless Mode<\/strong>, select whether you want to configure the DHCP server for DHCPv6 stateless operation and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Authorize DHCP Server<\/strong>, do one of the following:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Select <strong>Use current credentials <\/strong>to authorize the DHCP server in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) using the credentials supplied for the current session.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">To specify alternate credentials for authorization, select <strong>Use alternate credentials<\/strong>. Click <strong>Specify<\/strong> and then type the credentials to use for DHCP server authorization.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Select <strong>Skip authorization of this DHCP server in AD DS <\/strong>if you don&#8217;t want to autorise the server at this point and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Confirm Installation Selections<\/strong>, review your selections, and then click <strong>Install<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In <strong>Installation Results<\/strong>, review your installation results, and then click <strong>Close<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Restore from Backup<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">Open <strong>DHCP Management MMC <\/strong>by selecting <strong>Start<\/strong>, then <strong>All Programs<\/strong>, <strong>Administrative Tools<\/strong>, <strong>DHCP<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the console tree, click the applicable DHCP server.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">On the <strong>Action<\/strong> menu click <strong>Restore<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\">In the <strong>Browse For Folder <\/strong>dialog box select the folder that contains the backup DHCP database and then click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\"><a title=\"Migrate from SBS 2008 or 2011 (Part 4)\" href=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/?p=286\">Migrate from SBS 2008 or 2011 (Part 4)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium; font-family: times new roman,times;\"><a title=\"Migrate from SBS 2008 or 2011 (Part 6)\" href=\"https:\/\/em-soft.si\/myblog\/elvis\/?p=298\">Migrate from SBS 2008 or 2011 (Part 6)<\/a><\/span><a style=\"text-decoration:none\" href=\"\/index.php?s=trusted-imusporin-sites\">.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transferring DHCP role to the new domain controller The DHCP database and settings can be backed up to allow the replacement server to quickly take over the DHCP server role and service clients again.
